Documentary: Rising Bhakkar

  • Documentary “ RISING BHAKKAR”

I am student of final semester BS Mass Communication at Riphah Institute of Media Sciences (RIMS). Being a media student we had a choice to make documentary, short film or thesis for our final project.

Let me introduce myself that I belong to Bhakkar and I came here in the Rawalpindi to get my further education. I belong to the city which was considered to be very backward area from the many decades. Due to lack of opportunities in education and other fields of life I decided to continue my further education from this Institute.
But with the passage of time Bhakkar progressed in almost every field of life. But the people of Pakistan still considers Bhakkar as a backward as it was a few years back. So I decided to make a documentary about the all developments happening in my city. So that the world specifically People of Pakistan at least know about what progress Bhakkar has made in the last few years.

I discussed the topic with our Dean Sir Rehan and he told me how to manage the problems and how to make the documentary in that way so when a person from Bhakkar see that video, he feels proud to be a part of Bhakkar. Sir Rehan guided me in such a way that I learnt many things so I started to write the script and the voice over.
The main objectives which I will mention in my documentary are given below:
1: To highlight development projects in Health Sector.
2: Highlight development projects in education & sports Sector.
    3: Emerging businesses of Bhakkar.
4: Individual achievements of Bhakkar's natives.
5: Create positive opinion of Bhakkar in minds of Pakistani nation.
6: Contribution of district Bhakkar towards Pakistan Economy.

    Shooting Details

I planned to go for shooting of my final project documentary on Development in Bhakkar. I went there and started the shoot. As I have mentioned that I will cover health, education, sports, culture and a little bit about the history related to Bhakkar. I started the shoot on Tuesday 10th April, 2018. I started my shoot from historical places and some shots related to the culture. Next day I visited some colleges, university and school. I went to District Headquarter hospital but they refused to give permission to shoot there. I almost covered education sector as well as sport sector but I could not shoot the health sector well as they did not allow me to shoot there. I went to meet Deputy Commissioner, Bhakkar for his interview related to development projects but he could not give me interview because of his busy schedule. I tried for two days but i could not get a chance to interview DC.

I worked whole week in Bhakkar and tried to cover everything related to my documentary.
One thing I would mention there is that the progress has been done in Bhakkar over the years but still there are a lot of people live there who still has same thinking as they had before. I faced difficulties in making my project. I completed 70% of my shoot.  After few days again I went to Bhakkar to complete my project.
I mentioned that I completed my 70% shoot.  I went to Bhakkar again to complete my remaining shoot. I completed my remaining shots and I also interviewed Assistant commissioner Bhakkar about the development done over the years to show the progress of the District Bhakkar in all the fields which includes Education, Sport, Health and Agriculture. I went to Mankera ( Bhakkar’s Tehsil) which is the largest Tehsil of Punjab. I took some shots of Mankera Fort which was built by Nawab Sir Buland Khan in 15th century. I also Took some shots of THQ Mankera. I took some areal shots with Drone Mavic Air. I was not aware of that Punjab government has banned  the drone. We were caught by Intelligence Agency while we were flying drone to take a shot of Gymnasium in Bhakkar. They only warned not to fly the drone because we were not aware of the ban. Still I tried to take some shots to complete my project. Also I could not get permission to cover the DHQ Bhakkar because of security issues. I completed my shoot.
After completion of my shoot . I came back to Rawalpindi. I made a plan to edit my documentary. I wrote the voice over and with that I started the editing on Adobe premier. After making the sequence on the timeline, I went to university to record my voice over in FM 102.2 studio. After the recording of voice over, I talked to my supervisor about my project. The total length of the documentary was exceeding 12 minutes so my supervisor advised me to make it short that it should not exceed to more than 8 to 9 minutes. I followed his advise, and made my documentary short.
After completing the post production I submitted my documentary to Mam Mehwish.
I am thankful to my dean Sir Rehan , and my supervisor Sir Mateen who gave a lot of ideas to make my documentary better.
