Documentary: Chitral Gol National Park

  •                 Documentary: Chitral Gol National Park

I chose to make Documentary for my final project, for that cause I discussed my idea to make “documentary on Chitral Gol National park” with Sir Rehan. I'm glad that he approved my idea and gave me opportunity to highlight the unseen beauty of Pakistan.

    Shooting Details

I started my journey to chitral on 21 April  2018, accompanied with my to experienced seniors  Salman and Waleed, both guys have a good caliber to handle Camera that’s why I request them to join me in my final project  voluntarily. We started our journey from Rawalpindi and it took almost 18 hours to reach our destination. Such a long journey was a normal routine for me and salman but waleed was so tired of the journey. Even he became sick, so we stay at home for more two days before starting our shooting properly. On 24 of April we traveled to Chitral Gol National Park which is only 70km away from chitral city and that was our destination.

WWF Chitral has the responsibility to look after chitral Gol National park. So, we met WWF staff to grant permission for shooting. I was so amazed that the staff was so cooperative a senior staff member Ali not only guide us properly but also allotted their office guesthouse for us to stay. On our arrival day we captured all the beauty scenes in chitral Gol National park. As I had mentioned above blogs that the main objective was to discover the hidden beauty of Pakistan, so, chitral Gol is a unique place although it is not the largest park of Pakistan but it has peculiar qualities which distinguished it from other parks in Pakistan. Like, Pakistan national tree Deodar is found here in a good number, Pakistan’s national bird Chakor and national animal Markhor also live there, so our aim was to capture all these elements which make it distinguished from other parks. Although on first day we couldn’t did it. On first day we only capture beauty around the park, took some fabulous time-lapse.

Our target for 2nd day was to capture the national animal Markhor and National bird chakor. Both these creatures are so caliber and fast to capture in camera. We woke up early in the morning at 4am. I’m thankful to Mr. Rasheed who is watcher in chitral Gol National park who not only wake up early in the morning but also join us to find markhors. After wake for more than three hours we reached in (ishpar deer) know as a house of markhors where we captured lots of videos of this beautiful animal. Watcher told us about their qualities and also told that how hunters prey them. Chitral Gol is famous just because of these beautiful creatures. Where in the world this animal is in listed as endangered species in this park the number is increasing every years which sounds good. We also captured few shoots of national animal chakorr while we were traveling back to our camping site.

On third day of our shooting we captured the summer palace located in chitral Gol National Park, which is a historical heritage constructed by mehtar chitral in 1920 but now this historical heritage is crumbling down due to lack of maintenance. We highlight all these factors in our documentary. We also get some shoot of PTDC hotle located inside the park. But our main target of the day was to cover those negative factors which are affecting this park. Factors like chopping trees, didn’t use of waste bins by tourists, cutting the trees to write down name or any other journal and many others.

We also interviewed concerns people and several tourists regarding their visit to Chitral Gol National Park.

I completed my shoot and came back to Rawalpindi.  I started editing of the raw shoot later in Rmadan, person who helped me during my documentary was Salman Ahmed.

Over all it was a great experience, It was long lasting especially in the month of Ramadan but I learnt a lot, I’m thank full to my university department, Sir Rehan and Sir Mateen farooqi who guided me in  difficult time.
