Timberland of Pakistan (Documentary) by Zohaib Abrar Blog One

  • I'm the student of Riphah International University Rawalpindi. I'm currently doing my bachelors in Mass Communication from Riphah Institute of Media Sciences (RIMS). My name is Zohaib Abrar and i'm a student of BS Mass Communication 8th Semester. RIMS during the tenure of 4 years of a child make him/her capable of making his place in the Media market. The faculty and instructors not only try to make children learn the theory but also teaches them practical work so good that students before completing their degree are somewhere and somehow earning for themselves. Earning during the degree period is a big achievement of a student in my opinion.

Department of Media Sciences at the end of the 4 years degree program now have to observe that what their student have learnt in 4 years and what are their expertise. For assessment of a student they have a open offer to select Thesis or Documentary/Short film as their final project.

Keeping everything thing in mind I opted for a Documentary as my final year project. As it will really help me in my future and will be surly added up in my portfolio. So, the topic I've chosen for my documentary is not very main stream. As Pakistan is a cultural and traditional country something cultures and customs are coming from generations to generations. My Documentary will be on the Timberland of Pakistan commonly known as Chiniot. The main reason I opted this topic is that from the era of Mughals this city/village is famous for its wood work and furniture market. Now a days when everything is automatic and controlled by machines the craftsmen of Chiniot are still working with there hands and making breathtaking carving on planks of wood and giving them an entire new look from wood logs to end result furniture. People of Chiniot are not on expert in making beautiful furniture but they are also masters in making flawless decoration pieces with wood.

These people are the real asset of our country as they are promoting our culture in a very positive way and bringing customers and tourism from almost all over the world. They are masters in their work and know how to full fill the requirements of their clients. In my documentary I will show that how this whole process of furniture and decoration making is done from raw wooden logs to the end result in the furniture showrooms. Documentary will be of 5 to 10 minutes.
