The Unexplored Pakistan

  • Astola Island

Astola island is Pakistan’s largest offshore island, also known as Seven Hills or Haft Talar, is located in Arabian Sea about 25km to the nearest coast and 39km southeast from the fishing port of Pasni. Legends say that Astola was formerly mentioned by Admiral Nearchos in 325 BC, who was sent by Alexander the Great to explore the coast of the Arabian Sea. It is a picturesque Island that consists of large leaned plateau, a series of seven small rocks, and fissures that are several feet wide and can be accessed by motorized boats from Pasni.

Pakistan declared Astola as its first Marine Protected Area in June 2017 as part of an international obligation of the Federal Government under the Convention on Biological Diversity and its Aichi Biodiversity.

The reason why the island’s exquisite beauty has remained untarnished is because of its remote location. From Karachi, it is a seven-hour drive to reach Pasni, from where you have to take a three-hour boat ride to Astola.

Nevertheless, the place is worth exploring. So take your time out.
