Death

  • It is related that Propher Dawood (a.s.) had a minister who enjoyed an exalted position with him. When Dawood (a.s.) died, the man also became a minister for Prophet Suleman (a.s.). One day, when Prophet Suleman (a.s.) was sitting in council at the time of the forenoon and this minister was also in attendance, a man entered and greeted Prophet Suleman (a.s.). He engaged the Prophet in a discussion while he glance furtively at this minister. The Minister noticed and became apprehensive of the man.

When the man eventually departed, the minister approached Prophet Suleman (a.s.) and asked, ''O Prophet of Allah, who was the man that just left your presence? His sight really unsettled me.'' Prophet Suleman (a.s.) replied, ''That was the angel of death who came in human form to visit me.'' On hearing that, the minister became extremely frightened and broke down in tears. He said to Prophet Suleman, ''O Prophet of Allah, I beg you by Allah to command the wind to carry me to the furthest land in India.'' Prophet Suleman obliged and ordered the wind to carry him to the land of his choice.

The following day, the angel of death visited Prophet Suleman (a.s.) again and greeted him as he used to do. Prophet Suleman (a.s.) then said to him, ''You really scared my companion yesterday. Why were you looking at him the way you did?'' The Angel of Death said, ''O Prophet of Allah, I visited you at the time of the forenoon while Allah had commanded me to take his life in the afternoon in India, and I was amazed to find him in your company.'' The Prophet Suleman (a.s.) asked, ''So what did you do?'' The Angel of Death said, ''I proceeded to the exact place I had been commanded to take his soul and I found him there waiting for me and I took his soul.''

The greatest challenge is that which Allah presented to all mankind,

Say, "Indeed, the death from which you flee - indeed, it will meet you. Then you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you about what you used to do."

Kings and commanders, porters and ministers, aristocrats and commoners, the rich and the poor, even the mighty angels and the jinns and devils, animals and birds are all incapable of withstanding this divine challenge.

    أَيْنَمَا تَكُونُوا يُدْرِككُّمُ الْمَوْتُ وَلَوْ كُنتُمْ فِي بُرُوجٍ مُّشَيَّدَةٍ ۗ - 4:78

''Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you should be within fortresses built up strong and high!''

Where is the army? Where is the power? Where is the glory?

Where are the leaders? Where are the merchants? Where are the doctors?

A matter will come upon everyone, it is unavoidable.

Til they expire, it would be as if the people never lived.

It becomes as if he never had authority and as if he was never a king.

The beginning of death us the gateway to the world of the Hereafter.
