Top 10 Resolutions To Make 2019 Better

  • Resolutions means a firm decision to do or not to do something. For many people New Year is a chance to finally get rid of some old habits. Making resolutions which will last a life-long are necessary for a healthy mind and a healthy life. We all have heard people saying, “this year, it’s a new me!” but do their resolutions actually last more than a week. We are one week into our New Year and this is the perfect time to think with no pressure and come up with resolutions which will help you make a better person. Here below is our picks for top 10 resolutions which are very easy to make and follow not just this year but for the rest of your life.

    1. Forgive people!

Yes, we know some people don’t deserve forgiveness and they might have done something really bad to you in the past but this new year is all about you which means you need to feel happy; Carrying this burden of not forgiving people will make you tired and exhausted therefore forgive people. It will not only help you lift off the burden you have been carrying but will make you a far better person. A bonus tip: When you forgive people, you are loved even more by Allah (SWT).

    2. Trust Allah (SWT) with everything!

There’s only one way to achieve success; get your act together with the Almighty Allah. If your mother could write your life story, she would write the best things for you, wouldn’t she? She would want the world to be at your feet and experiences which will make you a better person. Now imagine this, Allah loves you 70 times than what your mother loves you. This means everything happens for a reason and we should leave everything on Allah while doing the best that we can to achieve our goals. Remember, no hard work goes to waste. Life is a cycle and your every move comes back at you in one way or another.

    3. Spend time with family and loved ones.

Yes, I know life is super busy these days. Work, university, watching your favorite season on BBC are taking up all your time but let me tell you this very simple resolution which you will thank me for in the long run if you adopt it. Spend time with family and your loved ones. You won’t be in the same house for the rest of your life. Your siblings will go out in the world and get busy. Your parents will be busy with their lives. Therefore, spend a minimum of 15 minutes everyday with your family to appreciate the little things in life and make memories.

    4. Focus on yourself!

If someone spoke to you the way you speak to yourself in your head, would you be happy about it or would you be utterly mad. We tend to degrade ourselves and speak un-gently to ourselves which is a bad habit. You are unique, you are amazing and you deserve the world. This is why it is important to focus on what you are doing with your time. Be kind to yourself, get productive, read a book, go take a walk, finish that movie on trucks you have been wanting to watch for educational purposes and do not forget to love yourself.

    5. Care about the environment!

The world around you is evolving fast. Technological advancements are being made and what not but in the midst of it all, our environment is suffering. Resolution number 7 is to care about the environment you are in. If you see trash, pick it up. If you can plant one tree, plant it now! Turn the lights off when not necessary. Unplug the sockets. Use less plastic bags. Do everything which you can to make difference in this world.

    6. Make human interaction!

With the advancements in technology, social media and emojis, we are forgetting what it is like to actually go out there and show emotions to people when needed. A “smiling with tears” emoji is now our basic emotion even if we aren’t feeling that happy. This resolution is letting you make eye contact with people and enjoy the beauty of talking face-face with people. The emotions which flow when someone’s happy or sad or angry or quite; this what makes life beautiful. Therefore, go out and make human interaction!

    7. Talk less and act more!

This is one of my personal favorites. A lot of us have the habit of talking a lot while making less or no effort to do a job. This year, focus on getting stuff done instead of complaining about it. You have a brain, use it for productive reasons. It is our responsibility as a global citizen to make use of our time to make this world a better place. Therefore, get up and act to make to make healthy changes in your life instead of just talking about it.

    8. Get Independent.

If you are in your early twenties, this goal is for you. Your goal should be to be able to live independently at least once in your life. No children, no wife or husband cooking for you, no parents making your life easier and no lavish-ness. I want you to focus on being independent to do all your tasks by your own self. They can be laundry, your meals, your pocket money etc.

    9. Give back to the community.

The world has given you a lot of positive things metaphorically or generally. It is time to give back to the world. Focus on doing at least one community service per month. Spend time with the elderly people at an elderly home, spend time with patients at a hospital, help people learn, pick up trash with a bunch of your friends. Do anything and everything which you can to give back to the community. Remember, life is a cycle and every action of yours will come back at you one day!

    10. Make positive memories!

Lastly, make positive memories. This new year is a blank canvas and it’s your duty to fill it with colors, joy, happiness and lots of beautiful memories. Each day, it is your chance to wake up on the positive side of the bed and make the most of your day. This is your choice and you need to make sure you make the right choice!
