Smoking in colleges, schools and universities has become a routine. Male students apart, smoking is also fast spreading among female youth. There are students now who don’t even feel shy smoking cigarettes in front of their teachers within the premises of their campuses. Smoking also brings with it drugs, which has become a serious threat for most of the countries. As a matter of fact, drug consumption nowadays is believed to be a sign of wealth, glamour and a right way of living for the young minds.
The rap music has a lot to do with this whole mind set arising among the new generation. As told before, it is the most followed type of songs among the youth. Therefore, it is equally responsible for ruining the lives of the new generation. There have been tons of rap songs of the past couple of decades that actually promote drugs. The songs of the rappers today like ‘Young, Wild and Free’ can be a bad influence on its targeted teenage audience. This is an awful way to market your music since it makes it seem like an okay thing to do if a teenage gets him into drugs and alcohol just because of a song (JesseGMC, 2013). There can be no arguments on this that these rappers can be the idols of our generation today, which sadly are.
This matter should be solved with the mutual understanding of all the countries affected by it. And if it is carried on and the matter is not resolved, then our youngsters will grow up drug addicts instead of the shining stars for their nations.
The excessive exposure to rap songs by the children is increasing the use of drugs among them. The message of most of the rap songs which are vastly followed by youngsters is to do drugs, sex and make money on streets which is earning through selling drugs, or in easy words, a drug dealer. Through these songs and their lyrics, the rappers are imposing this new ideology in the young minds.
However, the new concept brings consequences with it. The youth which is supposed to be studying and worrying for its future carrier is actually busy in wasting time and money on drugs. This has resulted in a great downfall in the academic records of the youngsters in their schools, colleges and universities. There are numerous examples of students who ended up studying owing to the addiction of drugs, or they lose their interest in studies.
As I have discussed the importance of youth and how whole nation is dependent on youth for a healthy future. And in reality how badly youth is turning towards abusing drugs for which I think the most responsible factor is the rap songs.
