Psychological and Mental Effects of Violent Content on Media on

  • Violence on media has become a heated debate ever since people started spending more than 1500 hours per year watching television, using internet and social networking sites (i.e., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) in Pakistan. Young adults spend more time using media than they spend time in their educational institutions. One of the most dominating message disseminated through media is violence which means visual portrayals of acts of physical aggression by one human or human-like character against another such as aggressive processions, strikes, lock outs, public killings, street crimes, public fights, and child maltreatment, physical and verbal abuse of people. Media violence significantly impacts psychological and mental well-being of youth and for this reason, violence has become a very controversial issue for researchers across the globe. It has been found that violence through media develops antisocial behavior among youth. Furthermore, it is important to comprehend the part that media plays in youth violence and to research the approaches to relieve these unsafe impacts.
