The current issues which have been highlighted in editorial section of newsapaper are as following:-
1) Citizenship promise.
2) Muharram precautions.
3) Human rights and mental health.
Good citizenship is very important in creating a functional society. If citizenship is executed with care and by taking all the communities along, it could alleviate the suffering and uncertainty of many. Prime Minister, Imran Khan has recently turned his attention towards Afghan refugees and Bengalis who are living in Pakistan for more than four decades. All those who dewell in this country should have a life of respect and dignity so Imran khan decided to positively transform the lives of these forgotten communities by granting them citizenship. Granting citizenship to those eligible seems to be a logical next step both legally and morally. This move is an important first step in ending the discrimination faced by refugee and migrant communities.
Muharram is well-known because of its historical significance and mourning for the murder of Hussain ibn Ali (R.A). Traditionally, the majalis and mourning processions on Muharram 8, 9 and 10 see the biggest turnout in people. Muharram processions are solemn, religious events and are not tourist attractions. The processions and related events are often unpredictable. It is very important to maintain an appropriate security posture through this period. As a citizen of Pakistan, It is our duty to ensure that this mourning period passes by off smoothly.
We are facing a global human rights emergency in mental health. All over the world people with mental disabilities experience a wide range of human rights violations. In Pakistan, Psychiatrists are few and far between and are considered urban clusters. Mentally ill people are denied basic rights such as shelter, food and clothing, and are discriminated against in the fields of employment, education and housing due to their mental disability. Mental health is a very serious issue and should not be neglected. They should be given their rights. Efforts should be made to promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights of persons with disabilities.
