Significance of Ashura

    Significance The Day of Ashura

Ashura is basically the 10th of Muharram is the most sacred among all the days. It is the most important and blessed of days. Evidence of its significance has been clearly found in authentic traditions. Several events took place on this day,

On this day, Prophet Musa and the Children of Israeel were saved from Pharoah and his pursuing army. In a narration reported by Imam Ahmad, it was on this day that the Ark of Nuh came to rest on Mount Judi.  It is also said that Hazrat Adam was forgiven on this day as well. Hazrat Issa was called up the sky, Hazrat Younus was taken out of the fish’s mouth, Hazrat Ayub got rid of Keede. And most importantly, Day of judgement will be on 10th of Muharram. And most importantly Hazrat Hussein ibn Ali scarified his life for the sake of Islam on this day as well

The day always had significance, Prophet PBUH used to fast even before Prophethood, PBUH said:” The best of fasting after Ramadan is the fast of Muharram” We should try to fast on the 10th of Muharram and on the ninth in the remembrance of Hazrat Hussain’s sacrifice for Islam

Therefore, to achieve greater blessings and be a better Muslim, we need to consider two fasting days in Muharram, one on the Ashura day while the other on the preceding or exceeding day.

May Allah Almighty help us to start the Islamic year in true Islamic spirit and allow us to reap the countless blessings of this holy month. Ameen!
