Happyness is an unreal true story

  • Life isn't beautiful. The world makes sure that things around us are ugly, and we are all involved in the day-to-day job of the title, the quest for complete happiness. Based on a book with the same name, The Pursuit of Happyness is the real life story of a self-made millionaire Christopher Gardner. The role of main protagonist is played by Will Smith in the film. Chris Gardner as a character in the film is an earnest salesman and a single father desperately struggling to make ends meet on the hard streets of San Francisco in the early 1980s. Suffice it to say that self-pity and lack of initiative are two character traits Mr. Gardner simply does not exhibit, no matter how bleak things get for him and his son. As his desperation mounts, Chris clings tenaciously to the hope that his hard work will eventually pay off. And his dogged pursuit of a better life forges a powerful father-son bond that no misfortune can destroy. Happiness is misspelled in the title since the protagonist's pursuit is not about the pursuit of happiness of financial security. But, in the movie, riches is never his goal. It is always about the happiness that being a responsible father will always bring. Secondly, the misspelling signifies an element of what this movie is really about. Just as "happyness" is not spelled with a "y", so a man's happiness is not pursued by abdicating his responsibilities. Which accounts for a Moral Premise stating: Quitting responsibilities leads to despair; but Pursuit of responsibilities leads to eventual happyness.
