CAREEM is a transportation network company which is based in Dubai.It is a privately held company.The company was founded in March, 2012.The company is valued at $1.2 billion as of 2017.It is based in 80 cities and 13 countries. Careem was co-founded by 2 key people Mudassir Sheikh and Magnus Olsson. They both worked as management consultant at McKinsey & Company.
First it worked as a website-based service for corporate car booking.Then it become transportation network company with car hire for everyday use.In October 2016, the company reached an agreement in Dubai where customers are able to book all taxicabs operating in Dubai via a Careem mobile app. In Pakistan , Careem employs women drivers and 30% of the riders are women. Careem is also planning to have a female workforce of 20,000 by the year 2020. Careem is also involved in charity work. Careem has been a supporter of cricket for past two years and has supported the leagues efforts to raise funds for children in developing nations. Careem faced a heavy criticism at the beginning of 2016 by local taxi drivers for operating without official taxi licenses.
