March the 25th

  • March the 25th

March 25th bears a significance for Pakistan from cricket point of view as on March 25th 1992, Pakistan lifted first World Cup trophy in 1992.

Interestingly on the same date, after twenty six years i.e. on 25th March 2018, final of PSL was also played at Karachi, in which Islamabad United lifted the trophy. In this event, winning or losing by the two finalists did not matter much since at the end, Pakistan came out triumphant by managing revival of international level cricket in Pakistan, especially at Karachi. It was a long and disparaging wait of over nine years for Karachi to host such an event which Karachites in particular and Pakistanis in general braved out patience. The match brought life and lost glory back to Karachi and once again became the city of lights, at least for few days. Earlier two play-off, also called as eliminator, matches were also played at Lahore which were welcomed and cherished by all and sundry.

Lifting of world Cup in 1992 and holding of PSL final on the same date is although a coincidence, yet both have corresponding outcome of varying degree i.e. bringing fame to Pakistan as a peace loving and spirited nation. Holding of PSL match at Karachi gains more significance and the organizers deserve accolade as it has paved way for the forthcoming T-20 series scheduled to be played at Karachi between Pakistan and West Indies in April 2018. It has removed misconceptions about security and has contributed a lot in building confidence of foreign players. This event will be full-fledged and formal revival of International cricket in Pakistan.

It is hoped that such activities will continue.

    Long live Pakistan.
