Evolution of Communication Timeline

  • Humans have communicated with one another in some shape or form ever since time immemorial. This is because Effective communication is essential for a variety of reasons. So in order to understand history of communication, all we have to go by are the written records that date as far back as ancient Mesopotamia. Ranging from the Kish Tablet discovered by the Sumerians and the proto-cuneiform signs, ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs and the Phoenician symbols to the discovery of prototype system and the present day Satellite communication and transmission, the history of communication has came a long way in its evolutionary process. Since man's debut on earth, communicative process has taken place through several methods comprising of disorganized set of signs that had different meanings for different individuals. Untill around the year 30,000 B.C.E, that communication process began to take on an intentional, manufactured format. What began as primitive cave paintings and signed languages has now morphed into an endless variety of ways to express oneself to other humans.
